How to install SSD into X51

Are you trying to install Windows from scratch, or did you clone Windows from your HDD onto the SSD?

    x51 Wiki

Apparently someone has been having a little too much fun on the X51 wiki.

Which SSD model and size is a good fit for the X51?

I ended up going with Samsung 840 EVO (120 GB) and 24 hours in, I'm super happy. It's nice when windows boots to login screen before the "windows boot animation" can complete one cycle. :-D That and being able to open folders and start running programs as soon as I log in. Beautiful. I still...

    Plug in power supply upgrade?

Haha thanks for the reminder. :-P I've done some seriously light searching (Need to do much more), but this is what I'm seeing so far. The wattage that a PSU is labeled with is the max output at the rated efficiency. The PSU is plenty happy providing less power, and will only send the power...

    Plug in power supply upgrade?

UPDATE: The 6 pin connector does not run to the motherboard, but to a separate board I am assuming is the "power board" as I've heard described in other PC builds. I figured as much, but I'm still a little confused. You say that it is an auxiliary power connection, yet it is the only...

    Plug in power supply upgrade?

Since I haven't gotten a response, I'm going to assume that this motherboard is like most, and will not have an issue.

    Plug in power supply upgrade?

This may be a dumb question, but I haven't noticed it talked about before so I wanted to bring it up. The last time I took my case apart I paid special attention to how the power supply is connected to the motherboard. That's when I noticed that the receptical the power brick connects to, on...

    X51 Cooling, Front Fan replacement?

Sorry to bump an old topic, but this is one that I've been wondering about for a week. Does replacing the 60mm intake fan with 4 pins with a 3 pin fan still allow software such as Speedfan to control the power to the fans? The sales rep at a local store said that it wouldn't, but this...

Now getting the High Pitch Whine from fan,,

I personally have the issue with the DC Brushless Fan mounted on the CPU that has a very high pitch whine once it goes over 10% power. I took the fan to my local shop, and I was able to find fans of the same width and length (80mm X 80mm). What I couldn't find was one that also matched the 4...

    750 Ti (Zotac) in Alienware X51 R1

Wow, sounds like an absolute monster! I'm seriously considering this card for an upgrade as of that post. Glad to hear temps are not an issue. Out of curiosity, is that fan pulling cool air onto the gpu heatsink, or pushing hot air off of it? My first assumption was that it was blowing up, off...

    750 Ti (Zotac) in Alienware X51 R1

Yeah that thing is really small, but looks awesome! (That's what she s.... nevermind...) I'm interested in seeing the comparison too. The only real question that comes to mind is how are your temps gonna be since that card blows hot air directly into the case rather than out the back of the...

    680m sli + full liquid cooling in a x51

This idea of running two liquid cooled laptop cards to compensate for the lack of ports on the motherboard is beautiful. I'll be honest and say that it doesn't sound the like the most well rounded option for the money, but still is one of the coolest ideas I've heard. Props to the OP for even...

Which SSD model and size is a good fit for the X51?

That looks like a nice drive. What made you go with that size and model? Were you looking for power efficiency specifically?

How to install SSD into X51

Haha I like the sound of that! I see in your signature that you are using a 256 GB Samsung SSD. I am assuming it is an Evo or Evo Pro? How is that size working out for you? Do you feel cramped for size on the SSD at all? (I doubt you do if you're still using the stock hard disk as well)
