x51 with GTX 670 FTW Reboot problem

If you already have an old PSU I say go for it. I used the included 4 pin molex to 6pin adapters that came with my EVGA and removed the wires from the 4 pin side and squeezed them through the grill holes near the power brick, then reconnected everything. That way you can connect and...

x51 with GTX 670 FTW Reboot problem

I've already done this with an external regular computer PSU. I didn't have to drill a hole I just removed the molex wires and ran them through the grill holes near the brick power plug reattached the molex then directly into the 670 ftw. Works just fine, I just have to roll my eyes when my...

x51 with GTX 670 FTW Reboot problem

Thanks, this is good info to know. I'm going to tuff it out with my external PSU till I finish Bioshock Infinite then I'm going to sell my 670 FTW, put the old 545 back into the x51 and use it as a overpowered HTPC for movie playing. THEN I'll save up and either build a new computer or buy the...

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Thought about buying this Pico Psu and pairing it up with my old 240 watt brick. One tiny hole would be needed to be drilled to accomodate the 12V power. The PSU would then be internal and connect directly to the motherboard. It provides power to the motherboard and has a 4 pin for the cpu as...

For those using USB Wireless, using that new empty mini pci-e slot for an SSD

I never planned to use the wireless but this week I've tried and failed to get it to work. I went ahead and removed it. Now I am wondering about what I might be able to put in the pcie x1 slot. The idea of a SSD seems to be the best. Maybe a tuner card? Does anything exist that might go...

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Yep thats the one. Time to start adding more external power supplies. :) If that card is over 10 inches might have to remove the front case fan. Will be fun to see how far the x51 can be upgraded in the future.

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Bit of an update on my external power supply. I used one of the 6 pin extensions and squeezed it out the back between the cover and case, no need to drill holes. Then I am able to connect and disconnect the external psu with a 6 pin. Sad, sad situation but it works. It even works with my old...

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

I used an external 400 watt power supply from an older computer and used it to power one of the gtx 670 ftw power sockets. The other power socket is still being fed from the x51 power board and brick. Suddenly everything works as it should. No reboots or glitches so far. This is just a temp...

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Thanks Sway, I'm new to the forum. Love my x51 and just googled how to use external power supply by shorting green and black wires. Looks really easy. If the 76 percent underpowered 670 ftw is really hobbled from being all it can be I'll give it a shot. But really the 76 percent is fast enough.

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

I'm actually thinking about doing that. I've got a 600 watt psu but dont know how to turn it on without the motherboard. What modifications are needed for using an external normal psu?

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Yea I don't get it either, I rolled the dice and lost. It's different depending on what games are being played. Older games it reboots right away but newer games like Farcry 3 reboot whenever it feels like it. But worst comes to worst I might just yank the little motherboard out of the x51...

    Got My GTX 670 FTW

Been testing out my EVGA 670 FTW tonight. I've had the x51 for about half a year with a puny gt 545 and a 240 watt brick. Worked just fine with that setup including playing crysis at resonable settings. I wanted more. Dell'd a new 330 watt brick and newegged the gtx 670 ftw along with the...
