Hello, I am just learning about computers and I want to upgrade the Nvidia GTX 745 in my computer to an Nvidia GTX 1060. I was ready to buy the graphics card when I realized that my PSU probably won't support the 1060. I have the standard 240W PSU and I read that the 1060 requires at least 400W. (I know that AlienWare does make a 330W PSU but it says 400W. I've alos heard from a few people that the 330W will run the 1060 but I just want to be sure.) All of my friends have computers with internal power supplies but for some reason the X51 R2 (and maybe others I'm not sure) has an external PSU like a laptop would. Is there an external PSU that is at lease 400W or do they not exist? Or is there a way I could add an internal PSU?

Thanks!

I just installed an EVGA 560TI 1GB card in my X51 R2 with a 330W PSU playing PUBG and it was running full speed for hours and didn't flinch. (Don't recommend it because it is not blower style cooler and gets extremely hot) The EVGA 560TI is a 210W TDP card so it should have no problem running the Founders GTX 1060... unless you got a bum PSU.

NewUPDATE:

Well, actually the information I just posted above might be incorrect. I checked another source and the EVGA 560ti is said to have a TDP of 170W, not 210W. Also, my X51 has the 330W PSU, i7 4790, 8gb RAM, Samsung SSD, and a noctua 80mm exhaust fan mod and it will not boot with a GTX1080 installed. So, if it works with the 170W GPU I will be forced to add a higher Watt PSU to handle the 1080 or downgrade to the GTX1070.

I think I'm going to mod the **** out of it.
