Welcome to AWO... Sorry we do not have a dedicated section for your older Alienware Area-51 laptop. I'm glad to see you plan on keeping it going with some upgrades. I moved your thread from the Area-51 desktop section into this one, so there is no confusion.

Ram and SSD will get you a noticeable performance boost. I think your system only supports up to 4GB of memory.

FYI: All the Samsung 830 series SSDs on on sale since the new 840 series is coming out in about 2 weeks. You can check Newegg and TigerDirect for a good deal on one. (I wasn't sure if your hard drive interface was SATA but from what I read, you do have SATA)

You could also pickup an OEM (system builders version) of Windows 7 for $80. If your processor supports 64bit, then get the 64bit version of Win 7.

Ram, SSD, and Win 7 64bit should get you going. I checked and your processor has 64 bit support.

What form factor hard drive do you have? 3.5" or 2.5" ?

So out of boredom I decided to dust off the old laptop and start Steam...
