Hey yall, I need some help from the Alien gurus with my project for my A-51, currently one of my LED on my vent lights is bad. It works fine until it changes blue that’s when it’s no good. I wasn’t able to find any replacement on eBay or online, but was thinking of upgrading to LED strips like the ones from cableMods.

Problem that I see is that CableMods has four cables (red, blue, green, and black) where as the A-51 has five to the connectors (red, blue, green separated and white and brown) I can only guess that white is power but I don’t know what the brown is for and if it would be possible to upgrade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to say what the wires are for, one has to be ground of course. The part# for the active vent top is P701R; after a thorough search I didn't see any tops, or parted out LED board strips, both of which have been seen for sale there in the past (remove your bad one, replace with new, use adhesive if needed). Were it me, I'd play the eBay waiting game, either find a new/used top, or someone's bare LED boards. This sounds like a low priority fix u should wait for the proper solution to solve, ie the right parts. An eBay 'saved search term' like Active vent top, Area 51 vents, P701R, Area 51 LED (or all 4 terms etc), they can notify u next time one is listed

This seller was parting out their system last month, he said he had it in mind to list the activent top next but didn't / hasn't yet, u can message, see if it's still there for sale https://www.ebay.com/usr/formerz28owner?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754

Thanks for the advice Cass-Olé, I'll go ahead and just wait for it to be available on eBay and i also went ahead and sent a message to the seller to see if he still has it or not. also just wanted to confirm with you because I have read your forums on upgrading the MB on the A-51, I will have to find a board that has a usb2 available correct? See i was thinking on upgrading the MB to an Asus MB that has the Aura Sync feature and have the LED be controlled by the Aura software.

yes, USB2.0 headers are needed. Original X58 has x3 headers, most newer boards only have x2 -->2 is fine

Original board, the MIO plugs into a 2.0 header, then there are three top USB2.0 ports (next to power on / mic / audio / e-SATA / 1394), one header power two of them, one header powers one of them > if u follow?, a new mthrbrd with only x2 2.0 headers, u can power MIO, power two of the top 2.0 external ports, the 3rd port has no place to plug in at, so leave it be. To get more 2.0 devices going (ie to power the 3rd top port, power a cooler or PSU software) u need a 2.0 expansion hub, like NZXT USB hub https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=NZXT+USB&_sacat=0&LH_PrefLoc=1&_sop=15

NZXT UI01 is the old model, there are all kinds of USB hubs, I use NZXT products however https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...sop=15&_osacat=0&_odkw=NZXT+USB&LH_Complete=1

In some instances, you can of course buy a 2.0 to 3.0 adapter https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr..._sop=15&_osacat=0&_odkw=usb+2.0to+3.0+adapter

If new mthrbrd has 3.0port(s), a DVD bay device can be added https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...sop=15&_osacat=0&_odkw=usb+2.0+to+3.0+adapter

No one I know of has probed the MIO/AlienFx LEDS to see what they run on (3.3/5/12volts), or if there are resistors inline to keep the in-rush current low (so bulbs don't burn out). These newer LEDs onboard with a motherboard, case, or device (NZXT HUE / Cablemod etc), no idea what they're output is or if it's ok to light our lights with. You can try to probe the output now, probe the new LED device, see if they're compatible

Here's a ThreadRipper 1950x build I helped Kashi'San with last weekend, she put it together just enough to get 1st power up / see if AlienFx works (yes, purple LEDs) & sent the pics --> wrinkles are slowly being ironed outthumbnail_20180215_112907.jpgthumbnail_20180215_181103.jpgthumbnail_28417774_10157249630671562_916655844_o.jpgthumbnail_28555676_10157254585606562_1934113174_o.jpg
