Hello,

Decided im going to mod my case to get those CPU temps down. I've seen a bunch of folks go for the 90-92mm Noctua solutions, though does this really give enough of an improvement over the 80mm OEM? doesnt seem worth while?........thoughts?

But I also seen this german guy went for a 120mm Xigmatek and surprisingly it fit too, unfortunately the Xigmatek Junas which he used, is no longer available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rflB5Z7S_M&t=169s

I also seen this thread where the guy used a 120mmm Thermalright 100 Muscle to great effect, but required a custom shroud (which I guess we wouldnt need with the case mod..) - https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/450273-x51-cpu-cooler-solution-and-gtx-970/

Have any of you upgraded the CPU cooler to a 120mm and can you advise on any alternatives to the above examples?

thanks for your help.

If it helps your decision I will post my thermals I’m getting with the 92mm noctua sometime this week.

Yes, it certainly will! I'd read mixed things about the Noctua, so wasnt fully convinced it was the right way to proceed, when I can get the AXP100 Muscle for £10 more.....

If you're cutting the hole above the Noctua92mm will your fan be pushing the hot air out? or pulling cool air in?

The noctua is designed to pull air in, I experimented with it the opposite direction and didn’t get the results I wanted.

Is that down to the design of the fan though? If I went for the Noctua low profile cooler, I'd want to swap the fan out for something nicer looking if I was cutting a hole in the top....that beige and brown colour scheme does nothing for me! :p

I’m not wild about the color but then again I didn’t buy it for the color. When my panel is on you won’t be able to see it anyhow, but I can understand if someone didn’t want to buy it because of the color.

I am also looking to exchange the stock cooler, I have seen previously that someone had problems removing the plastic holders underneath the motherboard so he cut them off, is that really the only way of removing stock cooler mounting brackets?

I'm using ID-Cooling IS 60 for my R2, the temp is not so great but it's silent fan. Just change the fan orientation to blow up air from cpu.

You can also use Thermalright Axp100 full copper or Bigshuriken 2 rev B.
