I don't have that old optical drive anymore that came with my x51 so is it needed anymore the intel odd eject software listed as MSI odd monitor in add remove programs, since i have my x51 in my new case with a new pioneer top end BD drive writer. its this software http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=9CVWK

got my answer from a moderator over at dell forums for alienware don't need it its only for there optical disk drive. so just in case anyone replaces it or guts there machine like i did you are free to uninstall this driver, no need for it.

I've just removed the drive from my X51 R2 and was going to place it in a USB Caddy. After reading this, would I be able to still eject the disc. This is the caddy I was thinking of buying.

or would I be better to just buy an external DVD-RW, (or bluray drive).
don't think you will need it since the caddy will have its own drivers but if you do you can simply d-load it again.
