Hey all,
Very new here, but I've been a long time gaming PC enthusiast. Today while I was taking out the trash I saw that someone had thrown out their gaming PC. I was curious so I fished it out and opened it up to find all of the original components still in tact. The only thing that was missing was a hard drive. I'm sure the owner removed that before tossing the system. I couldn't help myself and I took it inside to see if it still worked. Sure enough, even though it looks like the original owner didn't clean it once, it posts like a champ. It has an i7-940, a Sapphire HD 7870, 12gb 1600MHz RAM (it came with 16gb but one stick was dead), and a 1200W power supply.
I did further research online to find out exactly what I had found, and I came to realize this is an Area 51 X58 case, which I understand is one of the earlier machines that Alienware put out, perhaps before they were bought by Dell. I probably would have been a bit more gentle with it had I known it was a bit of an antique. I've attached some photos of it here. Please excuse the excessive "anonymization" of the photos. The only thing that is missing is the front panel, which seems to have been broken and lost for a long time. I looked all through the dumpster and could not find the missing front panel.
Anyways, the reason I'm sharing here is because I wanted to see if anyone could help me fully understand what I've found here, and what could possibly be done with it. Is this something that anyone would be interested in? Is it an obsolete piece of junk? Would it be useful for spare parts?
Let me know! Much appreciated.
