My SSD drive recently went down. Rrplace it with an old 500 G that was blank. I tried to insert my windows installation CD but something is wrong with the DVD drive. It is stuck closed it won’t except the disk. What can I do?
If you have had Windows 10 installed on the laptop before then you can use a USB flash drive to install Windows using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to get an Activated Windows installation.
It may sound silly but are you sure there isn't another CD in the Optical Drive? There shouldn't be anything stopping another CD from being inserted. Does your installation CD go in part way and then jam or can't you even put it in at all? Any chance of posting a photo of the slot opening? Can you shine a light into it and see any obstruction?
Very odd indeed.
You can't push the lever down manually and insert a CD? If the eject button on the keyboard isn't working you can sometimes get it to open by opening up File Explorer - This PC - right clicking on the Optical drive and selecting Eject. Maybe trying this will force the lever to open.
It could just be that the Optical Drive has failed
