Try to do a pre-boot test to check your hardware. When you re-start the machine you will be given an option to press F2 to get into the BIOS or possibly F10 or F12 for boot options. If you choose the later one you should be able to do the test. This should tell you if you drive has failed.
You could also try to boot in Safe Mode and see if you can get things to work.
