hi all just ordered a new
Alienware 14 Base

16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz (2x8GB)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M with 2GB GDDR5
WLAN Killer 1202 Driver
256GB mSATA SSD Boot + 1TB 5400RPM SATA 6Gb/s
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit English
Optical Drive : Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVD/RW, CD-RW)
Killer NIC 1202 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0
4th Generation Intel Core i7-4910MQ processor (Quad Core, 8MB Cache, up to 3.9GHz

14.0 inch (355.6 mm) WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare Display

just one question I want to change the 1TB 5400RPM with a ssd 512 or bigger. should I leave the 256mSATA as the boot drive ? or clone it to the ssd and use it as the boot drive and mSATA as storage

I would leave the mSata as the boot very very fast and you can still put a couple of your best games on it everything else on the SSD. killer little gaming rig you have there. and welcome to the forum!!
