I understand there is a thin layer of glass to protect the LED, so does it make it more durable than regular screen (which usually they are plastic)? And so what happened was my friend came over yesterday and he poked the screen with his fingernail while he was trying to point at something on the screen. Would that do any damage to the screen (although I don't see any discolouration or dead pixel yet)?

nah, your fine. I think the only issues with 3d screens in particular being less durable is the types with internal active shutters. Which are on screens that dont require glasses. If you were to poke those screens a little too hard in 3d mode, you can actually internally scratch the glass.

Other than that 3d screens are just abotu the same thing as a regular monitor. Just dont drop it ^^
