It is screen noise or artifact, not an actual noise. Be doing so testing with alien autopsy and finding errors. System then automatically drops the NVidia 580 off the system and replaces it with standard vga. Looks like another long conversation with support.

Technician installed new Radeon 7970m video card yesterday. Let's say that is all he did. He still saw the red artifact I had on the screen contacted someone and said I could send it in for 3-5 day expedited service. Started windows update 133 items , said he couldn't stay and wait and Dell would call me in a couple of days. updates installed, card would not fire up because no drivers would work. Finally did some checking on my own and found modded drivers that seem to work find. Card is fast as Black Ops 2 plays with out a hitch. Not sure what to do now. The intel video on-board does not work well with the 7970 as I just run the 7970 all the time. Let's say I am a little perplexed. Waiting for call back from Dell to unleash my mild anger. Computer is up and working though.

shank, I'm still having issues of the screen going black, what drivers are you using. I found a modded drivers that is the only one that works. Alienware's solution is to reinstall windows. Not sure what to do. Even videos when playing stop and go black. Perplexed with this machine!

Hi Dave all I did was go to AMD and let it auto detect as when the techy came he fitted the card got a phone call said he had to go and left me to install the drivers but you have the r3 and I have r4 I don't know if that will make a difference and I was told that because I had the 675m installed enduro would not work(AMD equivalent of NVidia optimus) but it works fine even though I run on the 7970m anyway as I'm always plugged in. But reinstall windows is always dells solution for everything but tell them you have misplaced your disc and they will send you out a usb pen which backs up all your data if you have a portable hard drive and then reinstalls everything and if they cannot fix your problem they will probably offer you a new system just make sure they offer you a good card like the 780m as the 7970 is an excellent card when performing properly or you could try a driver from I think its laptopvideo2go.com which has all the modded drivers for the r3 sorry I couldn't be much more help hope you get sorted m8

Well the saga continues, but there may be hope. Contacted Alienware support today to see why no one had contacted me per request. Technician listen intensely as I was intense, and he put in a request for a complete mew system. Will get the result tomorrow. He knew that I was very disgusted as he found out the Radeon 7970 could not even be put in MXr3. Realizing my distress he wanted to resolve this quickly. Now I get to see how serious he is out customer satisfaction. Even asked for a memory upgrade.

I'm pleased to here that your getting sorted you can get the 7970m working with the r3 but only with modded drivers but its good to hear that their replacing your system but do not let them stick you with a crappy gpu like the 765m make sure you at least get the NVidia 770m which is about the same as the 7970m. I would be cheeky and ask for the 780m which is 10/15% better than the 7970m. Mind you I like the shape of the R3/R4 but at least your getting a new system let me know what you finally get M8 if you don't mind happy gaming
