Hey guys,

Earlier today I bought an Alienware Aurora R4 ALX off Ebay with an Intel Core i7 3820 @ 3.6 GHz 16 GB DDR3 RAM and a GT 620 1 GB video card that im going to swap with my RX 480 8GB card. The PC is arriving on or before January 5th and comes with no OS or Resource CDs. The case needs a little work, it needs a left top side panel and a front bezel assembly (all the pieces are there but they are damaged). Firstly I'd like to know if there is any way to acquire the windows 7 OS disk for the PC as well as any resource CDs and Respawn CDs. Secondly the seller says that the power button does not function and can be turned on by plugging it in. My Area 51 had the same problem when I replaced the motherboard and was solved by sorting out the front panel connections. I think that should solve the issue with the power button if not im going to replace the assembly anyway. And third I was wondering if you guys would want a YouTube video of unboxing it and give an overview of the system and my Area 51.

Thanks for reading.
-Andrew

Because it's an i7 3820 it's Aurora R4; goto eBay, search Alienware Aurora R4, filter prices low to high, I've seen side panels ('side covers') & front panels for sale (looks like R4 side panels / covers are gone so play the waiting game). For generic items, simply search Alienware Aurora, low to high, see what's available. R3/R4 Top I/O (5W6MX >https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...70.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=5W6MX&_sacat=0 ) has USB3.0 (avoid R1 R2 types). For original Windows CD/DVD. try eBay or chat / call Dell. In the meantime you can download AlienAddict's 7Home SP1 ISO from Mega, it's a virus-free perfect copy of an original DVD and installs activated

Thanks for your reply! when i receive the computer i will definitely use your front panel header guide. As far as the front panel Ive seen around several listing on Ebay for the complete assembly with the power button. when i mentioned the front panel being broken i should have specified it was the drive door. In the meantime ive set the Windows 7 ISO from AlienAddicts to download. Could I just use rufus to mount the ISO onto a USB then set to boot from USB from the bios?
Thanks.

Sure, try Rufus. otherwise try google or uTube for tutorials

Speed up post-install update scans > https://www.infoworld.com/article/3...-speed-up-windows-7-update-scans-forever.html

Original 7 install DVDs that install activated can be found with a simple 'Alienware DVD' 'Alienware CD' search on eBay when available, someone selling their laptop disk would be ok, here the 7sp1 disk was just $13 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Alienware-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The top power on buttons are fragile, sometimes the 'plunger' breaks, so be careful with yours, always finesse it when turning on ... front panel / bezel appears to be this https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-De...862562?hash=item545043a222:g:RLgAAOSwb-tZ18s6

Thanks I will use rufus. unfortuantely, that resource cd and manual combo sold its a shame would have been nice to have with the pc coming in. and I've been eyeing that front panel for a while now but with just buying the pc has left me with only $25 in visa. Will keep looking though! I will also try contacting dell about the resource cds/ OS cds.
Thanks.

Wow these last few moments have been very frustrating. I ran a service tag check on the dell website and checked the hardware config and found some bad news. I found out that my R4 had been as i describe it "violated" by the seller , the PC shipped from Dell with 2x 7870s 2GB each and a Samsung 512G SSD that were not mentioned in the listing. the GPUs had been replaced with a "puny" GT 620 1GB card and the SSD not mentioned in the listing so either the seller did not know about the SSD due to the OS being wiped or he removed it and kept it for himself. Its a shame I was already planning on throwing in a SSD boot drive to begin with but now knowing it shipped with one and sold without one or not knowing sold with it frustrates me. Hopefully the seller did not acknowledge the existence of the SSD and left it inside. Luckily however, he left me the factory 16GB RAM, CPU and the original 1TB hard disk drive.

T8R68 7SP1 DVD installs activated with Alien Wallpapers etc > do not know what's on the USB stick, but if it is a basic Dell 7 reinstall OS it wouldn't install activated, no wall papers etc, it is or isn't a copy of the Alien DVD, you'll have to see (Dell basic recovery OS needs activation from rear COA label at the I/O area), good find, the USB sticks were $35 each when new & still available

Put that laptop Resource DVD up for sale ASAP (=

Update! PC arrived 2 days early! So far, I've cleaned the inside of the case with isopropyl alcohol, dusted and cleaned active venting area, cleaned outside of case and found out that the seller doesn't know how to press a power button because i pressed it and it worked fine:rolleyes: and installed AlienAddict's copy of Windows 7. The PC as i thought had the 7870s and SSD removed by the seller. I had trouble installing windows because the drive wasn't being detected and later found out the idiot left the storage in RAID mode:rolleyes: I got windows installed and installed Command Center, Google Chrome and Ethernet Drivers from Dell's website. More to come!
Thanks.
