After doing some extensive research and deciding to change around some parts on my M14X I have come up with the following information. Below you will find listed the parts that are upgradeable and what they can be upgraded too. Hope this is useful to those of you who are proud M14X owners.

A) Hard Drive

- This can be upgraded to hard drive or SSD drive of your choice. The only thing to keep in mind is that drivers over 9.5mm in height will NOT fit inside of this little beast.

B) RAM

- DDR3 laptop memory 1333mhz or higher laptop memory will work in this machine. Below is a list of memory I would recommend.

C) CPU

- Due to some contrary beliefs, the cpu is 100% upgradeable in this machine. This machine will support just about any Socket G2 Intel Sandy Bridge processor.

- I would recommend the Intel Core I-7 2920XM. (2.56GHZ, 3.5GHZ Turbo)

D) Optical Drive

- You can put in an additional hard drive in this slot if you so choose. Keep in mind the 9.5mm height limitation will exist though.
- I'm not aware of any Blu-Rays that will fit in here as of right now. The size limitation of 9.5mm is a large reason.
- Mine is currently upgraded to house an addition hard drive and I'm loving it!

Sounds like a great set up. I'm planning on upgrading at the end of my 1 year warranty. I've been thinking about removing the optical drive as I really don't play any games that require discs. And with this serious rumour about the new Steam Box I think it's safe to say that most software companies will begin selling keys instead of discs in the future.
Was thinking of a solid state, hopefully in a year or so they'll have gone down in price and up in storage capacity...

Is the video card upgradable? I know the GT555M is great but in the future (1-2 years) I might need to upgrade, especially if I get another monitor to hook up to it.

Sorry for the double post but I was wondering how I should upgrade to a SSD. Can I have both the SSD and HDD at the same time? And if so how should I install it and what should I do after I install it to get the full benefits of it? Also, what you recommend for SSD drives for about $175 or less?

And if you couldn't tell by my infinite questions I'm a complete noob when it comes to upgrading hardware.

The first upgrade I'm going to be doing is to replace the optical drive with a new SSD boot drive. I haven't used the optical drive since I got it since you can pretty much download anything you want. DVDs and CDs are being replaced by USB and even those are getting obsolete.

yes true but you never know when the optical drive might come handy
He can always get a portable drive, they're so cheap. I bought one with my m11x and used it once to install and old game I had.

Valid point. An SSD seems a good replacement. I'm still curious regarding the graphic card part though
