If my alienware m17x has 6GB ram, is it a 1x4GB + 1x2GB or three of 2GB. My concern is, do I need to access the 3rd and 4th slots below the keyboard or iss all the memory in the easily accessible slots?

Thanks

4GBx1 & 2GBx1, there can be only 2 dimms or 4 dimms. Does your M17x is R2 or R3? x( Cuz my R2 can't handle more than 4GB RAM xD

It is the new R4, so I guess I'll need to open the keyboard to upgrade?, Also: Do you know if the following product is fully compatible with the laptop:
Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10)

Would I have any heating or compatiblities issues with it?
Thanks

I belive it, in fact, is compatible. And heat? C'mon! Corsair causes almost any heat xD

You should download AlienAutopsy, it tells you how many RAM you can upgrade and many more things.

In order to get 3x 2GB sticks, you would need support for tri-channel i think. Which Alienware do not support. I think.
And in regards to heat, it would definetly produce less heat than the actual M17x. So there should not be an issue with heating. If there was an issue, they would have added heatsinks to laptop RAM.

But heatsinks on RAM is another discussion altogether....

You most likely will need to access the modules under the keyboard, yes.
