Just wanted to know who else has the Alienware M18x monster...:D It is the best laptop I have ever owner next to my old M15x. I think I am going to upgrade to an SSD for the boot drive and use my 750GB drive for storage. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

Get a Samsung 830 series SSD (SATA 3). Out of the five SSD I've owned it is by far the best. Its also not as expensive as Intel's SATA 3.

1st was a Crucial 64GB boot drive, failed within a week and got a full reimbursement from seller. Second was one that came in a laptop I bought (Hp envy 1st edition) never opened it up to see what was there, I assume it was an intel or samsung early SATA II drive. It was ok, but it didn't seem as fast as the 11000 RPM drive in my desktop. I ended up selling the HP for a profit. Third was a OCZ Vertex plus that came DOA (another full refund). And the fouth before the Samsung 830 was whatever is inside my macbook air. Its fast and reliable, but it doesn't have the great read and write speeds I get with the Samsung 830

I have an Intel 320 SSD 120GB in my netbook and it scores 7.4 on WEI. When it is in my much more powerful laptop (core i7 1.60Ghz) i get a WEI score of 7.7 and it boots in like under 10 seconds!! However, I only have that one SSD so I don't really have a recommendation as I haven't tried any other SSD's out there.

Another happy M18x owner here. This thing is sweet and draws plenty attention when I'm out at clients. Not only does Excel computations fly but so does any game. I just posted in another thread about my coming upgrades but I plan on ditching the stock RAM and going with 2x4Gb Kingston Hyperx 1866mhz Plug'n'Play. After that an SSD for the OS, Office and my other work related tools (programs).

By any chance is there any threads regarding how to tweek the m18x's...??

Like the best settings on the Nvidia control panel for the sli config that brings.

I always liked optimizing the performance of my desktop which I built myself.

Is my first time owning an alienware laptop.

I'm brand new on the M18x too so I can't help you too much. If you find out anything, let us know.
