Hey fellas,

Im new to this forum so thank you for taking your time to read this. I recently bought an X51 R2 and am now thinking of upgrading the graphics card so I can play some of the upcoming next-gen games like FIFA15, NBA2K15 and other games like Watch Dogs and Titanfall at high settings :p Here are my current specs (stock):

Windows 8.1 64-bit
8GB RAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz
GTX745 with 4GB DDR3
256GB SSD SATA + 1 TB 5400 RPM SATA
240W PSU

So the main question is, what is the best graphics card I can upgrade to safely? Ill be willing to buy the 330W PSU but it would be great if there is a card out there that runs nicely on the 240W PSU since i'm not that rich :p Im also after a card thats pretty much plug and play! Sorry i'm pretty noob at this sort of stuff so i'm here to ask the experts! Cheers!

You'll need a 330w power supply.

Your cpu is rated at 84w, hard drives around 25w, ram, mb, fans, wifi, cd drive, etc. Subtract from 240w and you don't have enough to run more than 100w card if that.

I'm running 660ti (150w) with 77w i7 cpu, an ssd and a 2.5" hdd, removed cd drive, 16gb ram, wifi. I've probably got around 40-50w to spare.

I would bet you could run a 670 series nvidia card with a 330w psu, maybe even an 680, but that is pushing it. Personally, I'm waiting for the 870. Rumor has it the next gen will be more efficient.

Thank you very much for the reply and the information! I guess i'll be getting the 330w power supply. Ill take a look at the gtx660 ti which I heard was good for the x51. However, if I get the 660ti will I have any problems with installing it or will it just be a simple plug and play?

Also I've read somewhere that the gtx 750ti performs well with the stock 240 power supply, is this true?

Cheers

The 750ti should have no problem running on a 240w psu. It is only rated at 60w.

The 660ti is a pretty simple install. Be patient. Not alot of room to work. Don't forget the plastic clip that attaches at the side toward the back for longer vga cards. The PNY is the card I installed. Works very well.

Thank you, Ill take them both into consideration. Ive been looking on various online shops and I cant seem to find the 660ti you are talking about but instead ive seen alot of the 660ti SC and the 660 SC as well as the gtx 760. Do you think any of these will be suitable?
