Rebuilding an Alienware Aurora R1

Hi all, new to the forum - joined looking for help.

I searched a little bit on the forums and came across bits and pieces of information that may help. I'm a bit of a hardware novice so just ended up more confused.

Essentially I bought (what I think is) a R1 in 2010 with:

i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz
6G @ 1333 Mhz DDR3
Radeon 5870
875W PSU
(Not sure what the mobo is)

I'd like to get my machine up to:

i7 4930
GTX 780 or R9 290X
32GB of Ram @ 1800ish Mhz

So the question is, can the Aurora be upgraded (if yes, then how), or should I spec out something new that seems to end up at the $3,000 mark.

Help appreciated.

http://www.alienowners.com/showthread.php/4236-auroras-r3-and-gtx-titan theres a thread i did on my upgrades to my r3. so yes it cn be upgraded. any m-atx mobo should work. just always seen the asus rog boards so i got it. the windows is a bit tricky to get to work. the command center is the hardest part to get to work. took me 2 hours to find a version that worked with a aftermarket mobo.
