Recently purchased X51 i5 and want to upgrade hard drive to a SDD. I'm fairly new to all this and want to start learning so thought I would start with the easy things first :p Any recommendations and advice please

You can start by watching some YouTube tutorials which are very informative. Do a search.

If you get a Samsung SSD and want AHCI support you'll need to update your BIOS to A06 ( UK ) in order to get the AHCI option.

Addiontally if you want to re-install the OS onto the SSD from scratch you'll need to ask Dell to provide you the OS, they sent mine for free on a USB memory stick. Make sure you remove the 3.5 inch drive whilst re-installing the OS else the 3.5 inch drive may also get wiped as it did in my case.

Lastly I found using the secure boot mode option from the BIOS the best, as initially I set it up as Legacy and now and again it would not boot first time.
