My Alienware X51 R3 (liquid cool version) comes with 16GB DDR4 memory running at 2133MHz, and today I upgrade it to 32GB 2666MHz DDR4.
Here is the amazon link for the memory hardware:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01EI5Z5Y8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

After just popping up the old memory and inserting the new one, the machine beeps and won't start. I can't even enter the BIOS.

I tried just insert just one chip, the problem remains.
Combine the old chip and new chip - still fails.

So I installed the old memory back and entered BIOS. Then I saw in the BIOS there is an overclocking setup menu.
I set it up to run at 2666MHz (instead of Auto) and 1.4V, poweroff, pop up the old one and install the new memory - it works!

Thanks for reading and hope my experience can help if you want to upgrade.
Note that it seems I can't upgrade my BIOS anymore - a BIOS upgrade will restore its old settings, which won't bootup my machine unless I install back my old memory and reconfig the BIOS... One of my friend has decided to take the old memory and install it in his NAS.

Weird though, the dmidecodeit still says the configured voltage is 1.2V. But anyway I can use my 32G memory running at 2667MHz, cheers!

So the R3 comes with 16gb? I have an R3 and I saw mine had 8gb or 8 usable. Where exactly do I check my settings?
