I'm sure many have tried this. I have an X51 R3. Took out the 970 and put in a 980 Ti. Since I had to take out the CPU fan to get it to fit, the whole computer is running VERY hot now. Fans are on full blast at all times, and it shuts off when playing games.

Has anyone tried to put a 980 Ti in an R3 and successfully gotten it to run cool enough? What did you buy? I don't mind if the fans are loud, I just need the thing to stay on.

invest in gtx1080/1070 the 980ti is a powerhog, also your CPU needs a fan or liquid cooler or it will die of fire.

980ti is WAY to power hungry and hot in that tight space, Great card (I have one in a AMP) but not going to work inside a X51 without modding the power supply and running GPU fan at 100% all the time when loaded which is a terrible setup IMO.

Hello, I am currently using the 980 Reference Card inside the X51 R3. I also had to remove the front fan, but my system is quite cool, around 50 - 60 oC for both CPU and GPU.

I did use the MSI AB in order to reduce the power consumption max to 70% due to my power supply is only 330W

Does the 980 run a lot cooler than the 980 Ti?
