Your temps seem fine. Do you use a cooling pad? This won't be used for gaming on a daily basis for long periods of time..that is why I have my custom desktop[emoji89]

Never had a cooling pad either. Although my ASUS 17" ROG would get pretty warm. Probably cuz my wife wanted to watch Pr0n once and I had it on a pillow :p. That was the only time officer, I swear! :).

Just noticed that AW dropped any BD/DVD drive options from the newest models - kinda sux because I occasionally watch my BD collection and Netflix doesn't have some of them on their streaming option. Also means I have to download Win10 when it comes out next fall, or else go buy an external USB3 drive. I hate Win8.1 so will be looking to move off it just as soon as MS releases a bug fix for Win10.

Im not saying u need one im just saying I use one. Mainly use mine for piece of mind. And I like having 4 extra usb ports for my mice keyboard and things. It keeps my 3.0 ss ports free for backup drive and jump drives as well. I kind of use it as an all in one connection base.

My estimated ship date is 2/9, although I did get a credit card verification phone call from AW and at the end the guy said it'll ship "next week" which would be today :). Checked on Dell.com and it still says 2/9..

I only got the 256GB SSD - no reason to load all my games on it, just the ones I'm currently playing.. Also got the 2-zone AW keyboard, gaming headphones and the mouse and a briefcase to lug it around in :p.

I do Amazon and Newegg reviews for Taotronics (West coast Chinese import company looking to expand in the USA), and they have sent me about half a dozen different USB port expanders, including ones with USB3 to GB Ethernet converters. They've all worked pretty well although the price they wanna charge on Amazon seems to vary. Don't have too many USB3 external devices but I did a file transfer from one PC to another and it went pretty fast.

I decided to purchase another 512GB SSD to add to my system. I will now have (2) 512GB SSD's, and a 750GB 5400 RPM Drive.

The R2 runs pretty cool and the 970m is a great GPU. You're going to love it. I can't speak much of the differences between the R1 and R2 but overall I think it's a really great laptop.
