Upgrading from my x51 (R1) to new x51

Hi,

I bought my x51 back in 2012 - from what I understand its a i7-3770 so Ivy Bridge and is an R1 - served me pretty great for 4 years and now i'm looking to upgrade the new x51 (i7-6700) my question is:

What is the easiest way to transfer my old HD into the new machine so i can use my existing programs etc without having to reinstall everything onto the new computer (i have way too many programs to reinstall...)

Ideally i want the new computer to run just like my current x51 same programs, files etc etc...is this even possible?

Well, if you think the hard drive will continue to last, just go ahead and swap it. Seeing how it's a 3 or 4 year old hard drive, you may want to consider just transferring over the programs and files you want via USB thumb drive. I did this for Photoshop and Lightworks when I wiped my PC and did a fresh install. still have both programs on my thumb drive, just in case.
