Hello. I bought my alienware x51 about a year ago and my current graphics card usually goes to about 75-85 c when playing Far Cry 3 on high settings. So I thought that for christmas i would wish me a new graphics card. The problem is. I heard that alienwares are hard to upgrade. So i need help for, what my psu can handle, which graphics cards would fit, etc.

My specs are:
8GB ram
Windows 7 home premium
intel core i5 2320 3ghz
nvidia geforce gtx 555
monitor is samsung syncmaster S27B350 and the native resolution is 1920x1080. Thanks in advance.

The height of my gtx 555 is 11.115 CM
And the lenght is 20.995 (all according to nvidia homepage)

Thanks! :D

Need to know what PSU you have i'm guessing the 240w? If that's the case you could do a 660 Ti. If you have the 330w PSU your options really open up. If your wanting to go Radeon that will be more difficult due to the size of the cards. Nvidia is a lot smaller and better wattage for the power they deliver so they are what i would recommend. At that point you can go GTX 760 for pretty cheap or a GTX 670 works well. Me personally am going with the GTX 680 in my x51 but i'm running a i3 and there only 55w TDP and the i5 2320 is 95w TDP so i have a little more head room. I'm upgrading my i3 to a i7 3770T there a ultra low watt 45w i7 but with a lot of power. Just and extra 2cents.

Hello and thanks for your answer. I have asked other places about the PSU and they say its 330w. Apparently i have the R1. The black squre thing at the psu says : 100-240v~4.4a i dont know what that means, i suck at computers.

Yeah that's the 330w PSU you should be good to get most video cards from Nvidia.

Do you think the gtx 660 will fit? After what i read its a little big bigger (maybe 1cm). Would it push the hard drive and then it wont ventilate properly?

I just read a post about a guy who bought a 660 and it pushed on his hard drive and there was no air flow

His might not of been a reference model card. Some coolers are over sized for the x51.

You would want it to be this style: Doesn't have to be this brand but see how squared off this one is and the vents in the back blow the air out the back of the case.

Another example here is the card i bought.

Like i was saying some blowers stick out on top or other places they wont fit. Its hard to say without seeing the card he/she has.
