Hi, I sent my daughter and her kids my R4 and I need help. I removed the hard drive and sent it to them. She had a tech install a new hard drive and a fresh install of windows 10. When he installed windows 10 he could not get the command center to work. When I had it I had windows 7 and later on I received a one time update to windows 10 for free. I never had a problem everything work great. He said he tried a work around but it didn't work. He said the only thing he can do is remove 10 and install 7. Has anybody run into where a fresh 10 install didn't w0rk and is there a fix? What 0ther 0pti0n is there. Thank y0u. by the way the 0 n my keyb0ard just t00k a dump. :(

If you haven't tried already, head to the Dell Support page and enter your service tag (found on a sticker on the back of your machine). Under Drivers and Downloads, download the latest version of Command Center that is recommended for your system. Try installing this one. It will say it's for Win7 but it should work for your Win10. I have done this with all my machines that I've upgraded to Win10 and they've all worked.

CmndCntr 3.6 is W10 validated & the last version you can use; my R4 W10 is still on 3.5 & either should work. If not then you might find further help at the Dellware forum if u post there (or here) with a better explanation of what exactly about it doesn't work (won't install?, won't launch?, 'no instance of an object'? etc). Make sure your MIO AlienFX board's double-ended USB cable is plugged into mthrbrd & into itself & has 4pin power (MIO orange LED is on when power is on) (I'll be away on vacation so may not be able to help after I post)

Hi, I just wanted to thank MattyB and Cass-ole for your help. I sent the tech that my daughter used to update the R4, your posts. He told me he spent a total of 12 hours working on the command center, WOW. He finally got it to work, I think he looked at your posts finally and did a fresh install of windows 7 and then install command center and then update to 10. I think he doesn't care to much for Alienware :). It's all working great now and I also bought them a 43 inch TCL monitor for Christmas and they love it. She said they are all fighting over it to play games on it, lol. I bought an R9 and am having fun. Thanks again for your help, this is why i'm a member here. :)

I'm glad it all worked out in the end. It really shouldn't have taken him that long. I hope he wasn't charging by the hour.....

Yeah, he kept asking for more money and he seemed pissed off and he had the R4 for 5 days. She said when it was done he asked for money and she gave him an extra $20.00 which she couldn't afford. Total was around $185.00 and she bought the hard drive. I don't know if that is a fair price or not but you did say it shouldn't have taken that long. Maybe he was a rookie. :) I'm just happy and my 3 granddaughters are really happy it's all working great. :)

I reinstall Windows all the time as I'm always buying new machines to fix and flip. I did another one last weekend. It is incredibly easy with Windows 10 as the drivers auto-install while you had to do it manually with Windows 7. It takes about 20 minutes to install the OS and then an hour or so to do all the driver/Windows updates. You can go do something else while most of this happens though as you just need to check it every now and then to do restarts. Only once everything is updated do you go and install Command Center as it needs the Microsoft .net framework to be installed first.
If everyone is happy then that's the main thing. It can be frustrating if things don't go to plan.
