hi there,
I am New to This forum so i will explain myself a little, I have an Early X51 i dont use it for gaming at all i only use it for downloading movies, browsing the web etc. it has a 1tb hard drive installed but i would like to get another 1 tb drive in there. is it possible to place a 1tb laptop hard drive on top of the existing one? i seem to have a very scaled down graphics card doesnt seem as bulky as all the ones ive seen see pic..

I don't think you will get another 3.5" in there. If you don't want to swap it out for 2x 2.5" hdds, you could put a 2.5" drive on top of the CD rom drive.

See the sticky thread I'm the section.

but i would like to ask you a question about taking the optical drive out and using an enclosure. is there a drop in the write speeds using it externally via usb 3? also thinking about taking it out as you suggest and getting a male slimline sata to female sata cable to install a ssd to boot from, do you think this would work?

many thanks

I believe its a miniPCIe slot and not an mSATA slot. Both are the m.2 form factor.

So that is a half size m.2. 30mm*26.8mm*4mm
Doesn't seem to be any mPCIe interface SSDs at that size. The are all mSATA.
Guess it won't work. :(
