X51 R1 - Is top SATA III SSD worth it?

Nov 25, 2012
I have finally decided to go ahead and add an SSD to my X51 R1. There is a ton of information all over the various forums on how to do it so hopefully I will not have any issues. I will also take this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I have been looking at SSD reviews, trying to decide which 512GB SSD I should get. Tom's Hardware recently published a great article on the current SSD offering.

All the SSDs nowadays are SATA III (6GB/s). I realize that X51 R1 can only handle SATA II (3GB/s). So my question is whether I should bother with getting the 25% more expensive performance pick (SanDisk Extreme Pro) or just go with their budget pick (Samsung 850 EVO) considering that my system can only handle SATA II anyway? I have no idea to what extent SATA II would limit the more superior performance of the SanDisk SSD?

Thank you all for your help.
